Born in Sydney, Nicolette studied painting and drawing at the Julian Ashton Art School. She worked as assistant to Paul Delprat on Age of Consent, the movie based on a Norman Lindsay book, starring James Mason and Helen Mirren. Nicolette studied painting with Charles Blackman. She next trained at the School of Visual Arts, Sydney, then turned to Fashion Illustration. Freelancing for 20 years, her fashion illustrations were published widely in newspapers and magazines in Australia, the UK and Europe in the 70s and 80s. She had her first exhibition of paintings in the now defunct Woollahra Gallery in the early 70s. She taught Fashion Illustration at both East Sydney TAFE and The Epsom School of Art and Design in the UK.
Needing a radical change of direction, Nicolette qualified as an art therapist and established the first Art Therapy Program at the Long Bay Gaol Psychiatric Hospital. Developing an interest in sculpture, she studied at the Tom Bass Sculpture School.
